1. DECISION HAS BEEN MADE TO AUTHORIZE NEWS MEDIA
REPRESENTATIVES TO ACCOMPANY VESSELS OF SIXTH FLEET ON BASIS OF
NO INTERFERENCE WITH OPERATION

2. WE WILL ISSUE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENT ON MORNING OF
25 MAY, LOCAL TIME. QUOTE. ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF DEFENSE
(PUBLIC AFFAIRS) PHIL G. GOULDING ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT THE U.S.
EUROPEAN COMMAND, WITH HEADQUARTERS IN STUTTGART, GERMANY,
HAS BEEN AUTHORIZED TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR HANDLING REQUESTS BY
NEWS MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES TO GO ABOARD SHIPS OF THE U.S. SIXTH
FLEET ON A BASIS OF NO INTERFERENCE WITH OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS.
MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES SHOULD PLACE THEIR REQUESTS WITH EUROPEAN
COMMAND HEADQUARTERS OR WITH THE U.S. NAVAL SUPPORT
ACTIVITY IN NAPLES, ITALY. UNQUOTE.
3. WE SUGGEST THAT YOU AND YOUR DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVES
IN
NAPLES ESTABLISH FOLLOWING ORDER OF PRIORITY FOR APPROVAL OF
REQUESTS:
A. U.S. CITIZENS AND NON-U.S. PERSONNEL EMPLOYED BY
U.S. NEWS MEDIA.
B. U.S. CITIZENS EMPLOYED BY MEDIA OF NEUTRAL COUNTRIES.
C. NON-U.S. PERSONNEL OF NEUTRAL COUNTRIES.
4. THIS MESSAGE SUPERSEDES LAST PARAGRAPH OF REFERENCE.
