SUBJ: PUBLIC AFFAIRS HANDLING OF THE MIDDLE EAST CRISIS
AND RELATED EVENTS.
AT THIS DISTANCE I HAVE FOLLOWED VERY CLOSELY YOUR MANAGEMENT OF THE
PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROBLEMS INCIDENT TO THE MIDDLE EAST CRISIS, PROBLEMS
EQUAL IN COMPLEXITY AND CONSEQUENCE TO ANY OF AN OPERATIONAL NATURE.
YOU WERE GIVEN A MOST DIFFICULT TASK AND YOU DID FAR BETTER THAN ANY
OF US REALLY EXPECTED COULD BE DONE. IF THERE WAS A ROUGH SPOT HERE
AND THERE, NONE WERE OF A MAJOR OR LASTING NATURE, AND YOU ARE
CONGRATULATED FOR THE PREVENTATIVE ASPECTS OF YOUR PROGRAM WHICH
KEPT SUCH TO A MANAGEABLE MINIMUM. THE RESULTS ACHIEVED ARE
A TRIBUTE TO THE PROFESSIONAL JUDGEMENT, COMPETENCE AND PAINSTAK-
ING CARE OF THOSE CONCERNED. MY THANKS AND CONGRATULATIONS.
GENERAL DAVID A. BURCHINAL,
USAF, DEPUTY COMMANDER IN CHIEF,
US EUROPEAN COMMAND.
