C O N F I D E N T I A L
1. FOLLOWING RECEIVED FROM LIBERTY. QUOTE:
A. SHIPS NAVIGATION WAS SOUND AND PRACTICAL
ONCE ON STATION USING BEARING ON MIVARET IN ALARISH
AND RADAR RANGE AT THAT POINT.
B. SHIP HAD EXERCISED AT FULL G.Q. (GENERAL QUARTERS)
AND SECURED ONLY SHORT TIME PRIOR UN-PROVOKED ATTACK WHICH
PROBABLY ACCOUNTED IN LARGE MEASURE FOR FACT SHE IS AFLOAT.
COMMANDING OFFICER HAD ADMONISHED ALL HANDS OVER P.A.
SYSTEM THAT LARGE BILLOWING BLACK SMOKE ASHORE WERE EVIDENCE
OF INTENSE MILITARY ACTIVITY AND THEREFORE CREW SHOULD BE HEADS
UP BALL PLAYERS AS LONG AS SHE THAT CLOSE TO CENTER STAGE.
C. FLAT CALM CONDITION AND SLOW (5) KNOT SPEED
OF LIBERTY IN FORENOON WHEN SHE WAS BEING LOOKED OVER
INITIALLY MAY WELL HAVE PRODUCED INSUFFICIENT RELATIVE
WIND FOR STEAMING COLORS TO BE SEEN BY PILOTS. UNQUOTE
