USS LIBERTY BOAT STATUS
1. MWB TOTAL LOSS. KEEL REST, FRAMES, AND SLIDING ARMS OF DAVITS
HEAVILY DAMAGED.
2. STARBOARD 26 FOOT PERS BOAT ONLY SUPERFICIAL DAMAGE, BATTERIES
DEAD, AND SOME ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DAMAGE DUE TO FIRE FIGHTING
WATER. ESTIMATE READY FOR SEA WHEN LIBERTY DEPARTS MALTA.
3. PORT BOOM INOPERABLE DUE TO PARTED TOPPING LIFT CABLE AND GROUNDED
[?]COM MOTOR.
4. PORT 35 FOOT MOTOR LAUNCH NO DAMAGE.
5. PORT MOTOR LAUNCH CAN BE LIFTED STBD BOOM IF REQUIRED.
6. WITH THESE TWO BOATS AVAIL FOR TRANSPORT, LIBERTY HAS MORE
CAPACITY FOR HER CREW THAN DAVIS. WITH THE TWENTY FOUR LIFE RAFTS
ON THE WAY LIBERTY WILL HAVE AMPLE LIFE SAVING EQUIPMENT.
7. IN VIEW OF ABOVE DOES NOT APPEAR DESIRABLE TO UNNECESSARILY
REDUCE DAVIS BOAT CAPABILITY AND REDUCE SIXTHFLT MWB ASSETS.
8. THEREFORE RECOMMEND TRANSFER REC REF A NOT BE MADE.
